Commercial Slip district rehabilitation

Commercial Slip was a waterway that originally marked the western terminus of the Erie Canal, and was the gateway to the upper Great Lakes from 1825 through 1918. In its heyday, this area was one of the world’s great transportation centers, teeming with canal, lake, and rail traffic, a busy port that brought people and goods together from all over the world. The interpretive elements, expressing the site’s activity and scale in its heyday, are juxtaposed with the restored Commercial Slip and warehouse remains, conveying this District’s past and future presence. The graphics developed for the project were inspired by the typography and style of the Canal era’s broadsides. This project was Gold Winner for best graphical treatment by Event Design Magazine and a SEGD Merit Award. (Project realized while at C&G Partners)
Commercial Slip était une voie d’eau au terminus ouest du canal Érié qui reliait la rivière Hudson au lac Érié, établissant une voie fluviale entre l'océan Atlantique et les Grands Lacs de 1825 à 1918. À son apogée, cet endroit était l’un des plus grands centres de transport mondiaux, regroupant le trafic du canal, du lac et de la voie ferroviaire, et un port très actif, réunissant des hommes et des produits des 4 coins du monde. Les différents panneaux didactiques, dont le design exprime l’activité et l’importance du site à son apogéer, sont situés au cœur du Commercial Slip restauré et des ruines stabilisées de ses entrepôts. Le graphisme developpé ici s'inspire de la typographie et du style des affiches de l'époque du canal. Ce projet a reçu le prix du mérite de SEGD. (Projet réalisé dans le cadre de C&G Partners)
